R.I.P. DQ
You guys, I have a secret. I’m a closet Dairy Queen fiend. Well, I’m not so closeted to anyone who knows me… My boyfriend pretty much asks me every time we have a meal together if I want to get DQ afterwards. I knew the ice cream they serve is high-calorie and full of processed chemicals, but it was one of my guilty pleasures and so I allowed myself to eat it occasionally (alright, maybe more like once a week).
A few weeks ago, I heard that DQ uses trans fat in their ice cream. Yesterday, I confirmed it. That was the kicker. I just can’t call myself a Nutritionista while knowingly eating something that contains trans fat. That stuff is a nutrition disaster. So last night, I had a little goodbye party for my favorite summertime treat. I got the last Blizzard (Strawberry Cheesequake, FYI) I’ll ever eat. I’m telling you now, it won’t be easy, but the last thing I want to be is a hypocrite and I’d never advise anybody to eat this stuff. How will I overcome the Blizzard-sized hole in my heart? I guess I’ll have to find a new, healthier type of ice cream to eat when the craving hits. We have a new Pinkberry-style place in town and I think that will have to become my go-to spot.
ETA: Someone reblogged with the nutrition info for a Strawberry Cheesequake Blizzard (a “worst dessert”). I got a small, but still. THIS is why I’m banning DQ from my diet altogether. Ew:Dairy Queen Large Strawberry CheeseQuake Blizzard990 calories39 g fat (24 g saturated fat)114 g sugars
